The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
