More than 50 unaccompanied child asylum seekers who went missing shortly after coming the UK and while in the care of the authorities are still missing, according to data obtained.

Many of the unaccounted minors came in dinghies or stowed away in the cargo areas of trucks and are believed to have been abducted by criminal networks. Kent is frequently the place where they arrive.

Government Figures Shows Concerning Numbers

Freedom of information information has documented 345 children vanishing from their area, with 56 of those still missing.

Between 2021 and 2023, when designated facilities for children functioned combined with similar establishments in other areas, 132 children disappeared from those two hotels. Among them, 108 were subsequently located but 24 are still missing.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children vanished from reception centres for these minors, with 182 located and 32 yet to be accounted for.
