Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
