People have assembled around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident saw over 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state memorials until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but events still took place throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the families of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A prominent delegate involved in the talks revealed that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the morning session concluded without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the discussions are "tough and have not yet produce any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Essential Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war management of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member endured the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere seems like home now and until each abducted person are released none of us will be secure."

"When we see all home again, we can relax once more. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel states nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "We need do every compromise needed for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of the population desire the war to end in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of the gathering, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and locality areas and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the evening comes, the dread comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, shared.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, clinging, particularly my little child who rests his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the conflict will come back to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of several people by the daytime, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area said another two dead people had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the southern area, medical staff said.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
