The National Thunder skipper Carlos Akapo and teammate Josete Miranda have both been banned for four games for abusing the referee following their narrow loss by Sudan at the 2025 Afcon.
The decision was made by a governing body committee after it examined the referee's report from the Group E clash on Sunday, a result that confirmed the side's elimination from the competition.
The referee reported that the two players "repeatedly directed insulting and offensive remarks" towards him and his linesmen after the final whistle.
"These remarks were made in a context of extreme anger stemming from the loss, but nonetheless constitute a grave violation of the standards of respect and conduct as well as the governing rules," noted the official.
Two matches of the respective suspensions for Akapo and Miranda have been suspended for a term of one year.
Immediate Consequences
The duo will now miss their team's last group match against Algeria on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the country's football federation has been penalized a amount of ten thousand dollars after its coaching team and squad members engaged in "excessive and aggressive protests" against calls by the officials.
The official documentation detailed there was "a progressive decline in behaviour on the touchline" after an own goal by defender Saul Coco in the second half.
Additional Governing Body Action
Elsewhere, the continental body have also penalized Stallions skipper Bertrand Traore the amount of $10,000 for "offensive comments" uttered in a post-match interview following his team's defeat to Angola.
