Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Continue Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted words of sorrow publicly, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine other people were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Law enforcement that entered the lodging recovered a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
